Wendell BURNETTE

Wendell Burnette, FAIA, is an award-winning architect whose projects reflect many of the same key values as the late Frank Welch: space and light, context and place, organic materials that are carefully crafted, and respect for the environment and landscapes in which we live. Burnette’s work has been featured in over 150 publications worldwide, and has received many prestigious awards, including a P/A Design award from Architecture magazine, three “Record House” awards from Architectural Record magazine, and a National AIA Honor Award.

Projects include custom residences located in Arizona and nationally, public commissions including the Palo Verde Library/Maryvale Community Center, the Children’s Museum of Phoenix, and the Scottsdale Teen Center, and resorts/spas worldwide including the much-acclaimed Amangiri Resort. His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and Wendell is also a laureate of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Bernard TSCHUMI

Bernard Tschumi, FAIA RIBA, is widely recognized as one of today’s foremost architects. His firm has established an international reputation for its innovative design solutions for projects of different sizes and scales, from small facilities to large-scale master plans. Major built works include the Parc de La Villette, the Acropolis Museum, Le Fresnoy Center for the Contemporary Arts, MuséoParc Alésia, the Paris Zoo, the Vacheron-Constantin Headquarters and its subsequent expansion, New York’s Blue Tower, the Binhai Science Museum, Philharmonic Hall for Le Rosey, and a large educational complex for the University of Paris-Sud opening in 2022.

Tschumi’s belief that architecture is the most important innovation of our time has influenced both his practice and his academic career. He is a tenured professor at Columbia’s GSAPP, where he formerly served as Dean. Publications include Architecture Concepts: Red is Not a Color, Tschumi, and Tschumi on Architecture. His drawings and models are in the collections of several major museums, including MoMA and the Centre Pompidou, which presented a major retrospective of his work. The Venice Biennale and the NAI have also exhibited his designs. Tschumi was awarded France’s Grand Prix National d’Architecture as well as numerous awards from the AIA and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Shane Coen

Shane COEN

Shane Coen has led Coen+Partners, his innovative landscape architecture studio, for over 25 years. Grounded in an approach of contextual driven design, the firm collaborates with the world’s leading and emerging global design architects, artists, and engineers to create site solutions that are rooted in place while embracing programmatic social and ecological goals with innovation and beauty. The studio has built a distinguished body of award-winning work because of its leadership, creativity, and disciplined design approach. It has also received awards from the AIA, the ASLA, the GSA Design Excellence program and recognition in The New York Times, Metropolis, Dwell, and Architectural Record.

In addition to his practice, Shane has taught studios at Harvard’s GSD, lectures extensively throughout the world, and was featured in a waterfront symposium organized by the Netherlands. Early in his career Shane was recognized with an Emerging Voices Award by the Architectural League and was the first-place recipient of the Landezine International Landscape Award. The studio’s body of work was recognized with a National Design Award from Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, bestowed in recognition of excellence, innovation, and enhancement of the quality of life.

Toshiko MORI

Toshiko Mori, FAIA is the founding principal of Toshiko Mori Architect and the Robert P. Hubbard Professor in the Practice of Architecture at the Harvard GSD. In recognition of her outstanding body of work, she was inducted to the National Academy of Design, the Academy of Arts and Letters, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Toshiko Mori Architect (TMA) is known for nearly four decades of innovative and influential work in a diverse body of projects that have received numerous design awards. TMA’s intelligent approach to ecologically sensitive siting strategies, historical context, and innovative use of materials reflects a creative integration of design and technology. Their designs demonstrate a thoughtful sensitivity to detail and involve extensive research into the site conditions and surrounding context.

Mori’s recent awards and honors include the Louis Auchincloss Prize from the Museum of the City of New York; the ACSA Gold Medal; Architectural Record’s Women in Design Leader Award; the AIA / ASCA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education; and Architectural Digest’s AD100. Her project “Thread: Artists’ Residency and Cultural Center” was awarded the AIA and also inaugural FIBRA Award for Contemporary Plant Fiber-based Architecture. She has published two new monographs, one with a+u magazine for their February 2020 issue and another with ArchiTangle titled “Toshiko Mori Architect: Observations.”
